DIY brides x

Hi Fairy bugs! We have a special little feature for our lovely DIY brides.
I was invited by the lovely Leanne at Manchester Arndale to come down and talk to 4 of the major high streets stores selling everything from homewares, electricals, cooking utensils etc. Now I know this is not the usual feature that I normally create for you, but there is method to what may seem madness.
So invitation in hand, I hopped, skipped and jumped over to Manchester Arndale (on my lunch hour), to find some wedding props for our DIY brides.

I power walked my little tush around the Arndale to Argos, Homesense, Wilkinsons and Clas Olhson. Now you may not think to visit these stores when planning your wedding day but trust me some of the finds are perfect for wedding day titivating and all at pocket friendly prices!!

So lets get tooting :)
First up we have Wilkinson, with a brand new revamped website which, i must say is much easier to navigate and has a lovely section 'Shop by trend". Now this little feature is great if you are looking for pieces to sit within your theme. I was pleasantly surprised by some of the finds on the site! DIY brides with and outdoor, summer wedding.....have you thought about what pieces you may want to use to dress the outdoor space? Outdoor is just as important as indoor! Well take a gander at the below items (best bit you can use them in your home after)!

The hanging hearts are super to spruce up any outdoor spaces or to simply hang inside parasols. These have a lovely pattern and are a steal at £6.00. Not your colour spray them! The outdoor moroccan lights add a real romantic touch and will flicker on into the early hours. At £15.00 each they may seam a little much but remember you can re-use them at home after, making them a super 2in1. Other items not to miss on the site are the lovely coloured tealights! An inexpensive way to add your highlight colours. The decorative metal ball lights which, compliment the pieces above. Then you really must look at the home accessories section. There are loads of great finds to spruce up your wedding. Visit Wilkinsons at http://www.wilko.com

Next our friends at Homesense. Recently invited to the store opening this store is full of trinkets ideal to accessorise your special day. Now the main thing about home sense is a good store visit! You may need to pencil some time in your diary, as once you step foot in the store you'll be in there for hours looking through the aladdins cave of everything lovely jubbly!

As a little contrast to the last offerings i showcased from home sense i now have some fun colourful quirky extras which will give your day an eclectic vibe. The enamel coated cases are amazing and as you can see come in different sizes and colours! Individually priced depending what size you choose, buy one of these eye popping trunks and bob it on your present table, they are a great way to collect your wedding cards! I know some of our brides to be love a bit of vintage quirkiness and the old skool jukebox & petrol pump boxes are a real delight. If your having a sweet table use these as a kooky feature filling them with bags and scoops. Check out the site now to find your nearest store http://www.homesense.com

Thirdly we have Clas Ohlson and I was happily surprised by the lovely seasonal offerings displayed beautifully at the front of their store. If you have a garden party or kitsch theme pop down now, don't miss out! Now although i may have focused on the outdoor pieces here there are lots of other finds to be had. Photo frames for table plans, disposable cameras (let your guests photograph your day) and much much more!

From tea lights to lanterns, ice cream pots & spoons to colourful picnic ware. Now as an up and coming theme, "the outdoors wedding" with its homemade essence are trending more and more so I must admit i gave a little squeal when i saw the wall of pink and aqua picnic ware! These items will definitely add a touch of fun to your wedding. From as little as £2.69 (for multiple packs) these pieces are sure to be flying out the doors. Don't fret you can get them online too at http://www.clasohlson.com for those of your who are wanting a true garden party feel there are matching paper plates and cups too! eek!

Lastly we have Argos. Now traditionally I think alot of us use argos for house hold and electrical bits and bobs. Well look again peeps! There are some bargains to be had. Hold on now this piece below is a great way to create a homemade table plan. Each cage can be a different table with name tags clipped to the cage (you can get miniature wooden pegs from any hobby shop)! Then in the photo sections add your favourite memories of you and your husband, or what about a representation for your table names (i.e places you live - photos of houses, street names etc). Don't worry if you have more than 4 tables get 2! Now they are £44.99 each but afterwords add wedding photos and give them as a gift to family members.......there's that lovely 2in1 idea again :)

Then what about these lovely little votives £9.99 for 3. Add a sweet scented tealight and they will flicker away happily on your tables or fill them with sweets for your guests to pick at. Whats more is these will look lovely in the home afterwards. Check out Argos now for more finds http://www.argos.co.uk

I really hoped we've helped inspire you to look for lovely finds for your special day in some of the shops we visit in our day to day! Not only will you have something that isn't off a bridal website you will find great finds at great prices and no one will know but you! Giving you the chance to add the DIY to your special day xx

Wedding Inspiration of the Week x

Hello thursday and hello fairy bugs!
OMG where has this week gone. I think i have blinked and missed some of it! So it's lovely to sit down and share this weeks 'Wedding inspiration of the week' with you. I'm loving all the nods to retro fashion at the moment and thought we'd inspire you with a swish of the 50's.
A beautifully, classic and chic era full of style, sophistication and glamour. Our take is slightly more kitsch but just as delightful.
The most important place to start is 'The Dress'. Your dress is the focal point everyone will want to see/ So dazzle them in a dress that oozes 50's glamour! Go for the cropped, full skirted dress with beautiful lace details and that 'Oh so' important nipped in waist. This will really help set the scene for your retro 50's wedding. One little detail you could add here is a colour sash around your waist. Something subtle would be great, a frosted olive, a pastle shade of buttercup, a pretty pink! What ever the highlight colour for your special day is could add a real 'umph' to your dress and link everything together perfectly. (image from french wedding blog).

Hair accessories are just as important as the dress and if you are setting the scene for a particular era here is a good place to be bold. So as we are coaxing the fabulous 50's why not opt for a fascinator with a delicate veil. Take a look at this show stopper below. (image from people photos)

Now to top of the 'ever so chic' statement style, you need a super dooper eye popping bouquet. Something small, full of colour and an almost 'pick & mix' style with a ready to burst vibe! The beautiful thing about the bouquet below is the stand out peony next to the array of wild flowers and carnations. Total beaut! (image from wedding 2013)

Bringing a little Dior meets Grease are these totally cute 50's dresses in a vintage floral print with contrast waistbands. Eeeeek a little bit excited about these. Just imagine your stunning photos! What a way to highlight your very classy, fashionable day.

Yummy - cake time!! This cake oozes 'made by my mum' or auntie for that matter. It's hand crafted, rustic yet cleverly pieced together for that effortless effect. Loving the little doves and floral elements. Position this on a porcelain cake stand for maximum retro impact. So darling!

Now for your guests! Why not treat them to their own piece of retro yumminess. Bringing the 'made with love' factor, we can offer you these delicate jam jars full of your favourite sweet delights. We can either add a personal note of thanks from you & the groom or double them up as name cards, with each jar of happiness being allocated to every special person who attends. Email us now for bibbidi bobbidi boo prices. Made and delivered we take that little bit of stress away - the-fairygodmother@hotmail.com

Wedding Inspiration of the Week x

Hello to all our lovely followers! Hope your all having a swell week :)
We have another lovely selection from our pinterest boards for you. Pieced together to give you your very own mood board.
This weeks wedding inspiration is pretty pastels. Soft, fluffy, delicate, delectable, pastels! The thing about soft colours you can make them look vintage with slightly powdery tones mixed with lace trims & pearls etc or you can make them look crisp and as fresh as a daisy. I thought i'd opt for the latter. There's nothing more lovely than pretty pastels that are true to colour and mixed so effortlessly they immediately compliment each other, making their impact all the more great. Take a look at the below for ideas on how to achieve this look.

The obvious first step is flowers. As in the image below the soft peaches with baby blues, lemon and hint of soft green foliage looks delicate, thoughtful and carefully pieced together. The lovely thing here is the mix of flowers. Traditional with wild - very avant grade :)
(image from 'just make a wish')

An area which you may not initially think of, but is a super place to make a statement is the cake. Look at this gem. This lovely french beauty is stunning with its mixed layers of pastels and textures, not to mention the delicate floral details which also add a bit of class to the cake. (image from French wedding style)

Now if you have a few bridesmaids why not give them a colour of their own. This will highlight you and will help set the theme of the day. I love the fact the bride is in white it keeps the whole look, pretty and fresh looking. A super idea here is the grooms mens ties! Love the thought of them in complimenting ties to the bridesmaids colour. So chic! (image from manda knight)

Now for you. Fluid almost grecian dresses are making a real statement at the moment and are appearing more and more in Wedding boutiques. Its a real elegant approach to dressing. Optic white would sit beautifully with the pastels while the flowing lines will keep the whole look soft and feminine. You'll look an absolute dream! (image from crystal marie)

If you would also be requiring a bit of bibbidi bibbidi boo then we can offer a range of made and delivered favours! For this theme we thought best to show you our Chocolate heart lollipops! mmmm yummy :) milk chocolate with white chocolate drizzled on top. Wrapped and tagged to perfection. At £1.60 each they are a lovely treat for your guests. They will sit perfectly on your table and with names on the front you won't need place cards :) for more info email us at the-fairygodmother@hotmail.com x

Wedding Inspiration of the Week x

Hello to all our Brides to be and our Fairy bug followers!
This weeks inspiration is all about blue hues. Duck egg to baby blue, tiffany blue to powder blue - its definitely a colour for the season. This is also a good way to have your something blue for those of you who like tradition.
You can opt to add a little blue hue into your bouquet & corsages or simply into jewellery. There are lovely images below from pinterest which, show more of a duck egg blue. Accessories are the obvious choice but what about.........

....your cake? I love this cameo inspired cake. Full of style and perfectly created it looks fresh and new in its lovely shade of frosted blue. It would be a fantastic piece to show your guests and would be something i'm sure your guests would not have seen before. (image from miss ingredient)

Now for flowers. I really liked this more rustic approach to a centre piece. Showing powder blue hydrangea with a tinted blue water. This is really set off by the natural tones of all the other elements. If this isn't for you mix pastels with more baby blue. Or put green blues against peachy colours it will look uber fresh! (image from inside weddings)

Next for the bridesmaids. What about dressing them in your blue or blues? You can mix the tones of blue so each bridesmaid is different - very chic. Or as below dress your maid of honor is a slightly darker shade to define who she is. The lovely thing is these soft shades of blue really set off the bride in white. So pretty!

Need favours? We make and deliver them just for you, so you don't have to lift a finger. We will personalise them so you won't need place cards and will adapt them to your blue hue :)
For the rustic feel we have opted to show you our "nuts about you" boxes. Email us for more information and ideas at the-fairygodmother@hotmail.com

Wedding Inspiration of the Week x

Hello Fairy bugs. What a fantastic week of sunshine. It really does do people the world of good to catch a few rays. Spirits are up, smiles all round & gardens are blooming!
For this weeks inspiration i have held on to the latter, and am really feeling for the floral elements of a wedding. I know we still have alot of brides to be who adore the vintage look, or the newer shabby chic version. Well the below is for you and will give you ideas to perfect your special day.
Adding the floral elements will give a real authentic feel to your wedding. Wild flowers are a great option as well as the staple flowers such as roses and hydrangeas. There are so many ways to can add the floral touches yet we are always looking for that more unique option.
With this thought in mind i really wanted to share some of the imagery on my pinterest boards with you.

The first is this stunning yet simple cake. I love this idea of painted art work on a cake. You could also add this to cupcakes if that is more your thing, or why not consider mini cakes. Just imagine how stunning they would look on a tiered stand - eye-catching! (image from amelies house cake)

If you are looking for the trendy shabby chic / vintage look then check out this fabulous bouquet. What a lovely way to mix wild flowers and colours. It's not over powering but confirms the scene set. You could also use the same flowers in mixed jars on your table!

Invitations can be hard to get right. To say what you need to say, yet setting the scene for your day. I think the idea of adding a floral touch into your envelopes is ingenious! By doing this you could add a lovely simple elegant card to match. Your invites will fill your guests with connotations of a very special, creative wedding to come.

Now for the important piece. The dress! Keep your eyes peeled for stunning lace details on the back of your dress. It's new, chic and gives a little glamour to any look. I also heart the flower detail in the hair. The soft hues hold onto a vintage feel, with a whimsical twist.

We need you! We have a short survey for all our followers. It would be great if you could help us by taking the time to answer the multiple questions. There's only 7 so it won't take long at all but would be a huge help in us improving what we offer and what's next for The Fairy Godmother. Check out the link below. Also one HUGE thanks in advance xx
